Aspiring to enhance vitality, economic health and environmental stewardship Chalet Blanc is a proposed mixed-use expansion project located in Tahoe City’s town center. Completed in 1971, Chalet Blanc is a swanky example of Tahoe City’s unique mountain kitsch vernacular. The proposed expansion will include sixteen to eighteen achievable workforce housing rental units above a restaurant space and gallery / studio and occasional lecture hall /event space.
What is achievable workforce housing?
Housing for teachers, firefighters, nurses, other professionals, etc. You know, the people that make a community, a community!
*see the current TRPA technical definition at the bottom of this page
Why do we need it?
We need 14,000 additional housing units in the region to help preserve this local workforce, reduce the number of inbound commuters and plan for future growth.
How do we get it?
We envision it, we plan it, and hopefully we build it with help and incentive programs from North Tahoe Community Alliance, Placer County, and the Mountain Housing Council among others.
